Inside//Out - A Beauty Editorial for Utterly Engaged Magazine Issue. 20

If you follow me on twitter, you'll remember this behind the scenes pic I posted a little while back? Well it was from a shoot that I styled for Utterly Engaged's most recent issue! Doesn't that table full of accessories just scream fun?! Well check out the beauty editorial in Issue #20 HERE and read below for my recap.

This shoot was so fun to work on. The ladies of UE came to me with this editorial they were shooting, and I jumped at the chance to style this shoot that focused on the powers behind good hair & makeup, and the ability to let true beauty shine through. Unlike most wardrobe styling I do for photoshoots, this one was more about the hair & makeup and needed to be silently but strongly supported by accessories.

Each girl had a very distinct look to go along with her "flaw", but didn't necessarily have anything to do with her flaw. I knew that I wanted each girl to have a strong definable look that the readers of UE could relate to.

I kept the jewelry strong to the concept, but also exhibited restraint to not over style them. I loved working with Caroline Tran, who captured these breath taking images. Also, the artiste's behind the brushes- Amy Clarke, who not only corrected the "flaws" but also brought out each girls true beauty! and Melina Ruiz for taking the vision for each gal and ampping it up ten fold!

Ballerina Mod - Twiggy meets ballerina. Love love loved this look! Lauren's goregeous eyes and oval shaped face made for the perfect canvas to pull this look off. Simple Marc Jacob studs, with a vintage gold and white necklace from the 1960's were the perfect accents to this ballerina mod look.

Soft Whispers - Soft, light, airy, romantic. Sara's long flowy hair and sweet demeanor solidified this look for me. It was all about long wavy curls, soft blushes and lashes for her! This pearl bib necklace (made by her! www.sarahandmade.com) made for the perfect way to add some soft whispers to her look.

Miami Babe - Hold the phone! Talk about one hot mama :) I channeled Lucia's inner Miami mamma- big hair, hot pink lips, and big flashy aqua/gold earrings by Kendra Scott were the perfect way to amp up this Miami Babe's look.

Hollywood Glamour - Lana Lake meets Elizabeth Taylor in this red carpet worthy moment. Wavy curls that swooped across Henny's flawless face, winged liner, a deep red lip, and ears dripping with jewels, were the perect way to channel her inner old hollywood glamour queen.

Oh So LA - Trendy LA chic meets demure sex kitten. LA glamour is known for its ability to make bed hair and bright red lips look sexy and fashion forward. Such that, this look on Samantha was perfected with tousled locks and sultry red lips topped off with the perfect gunmetal and crystal Givenchy necklace.

Ethereal Goddess - Effortlessly golden and radiant was the name of this game. Couldn't you imagine Marcela on the beaches of St. Martin?? Gold accessories like this amazing Anthropologie necklace and Nordstrom earrings made this look effortless and put together. I wanted her to have that hair up- don't care... but I look amazing pony tail, with a glowing and dewey look to her makeup. Loved it!

Last but not least... remember my comment about how I had a pocket full of smoke an mirrors that day??? Well if you look closely at each "look" you'll notice that they're all wearing the same dress! Yes, it was the story of the sisterhood of the traveling dress that day. And for this last picture, I worked with a total of 4 dresses and 2 tops to pull off this neutral palette :). Part of my job is to execute a look and feel and to communicate a specific message through the use of clothing and accessories. And with this fun last image I leave you with a behind the scenes image that I posted on my twitter the day of the shoot....
I told you I had a pocket of smoke and mirrors! :)

Featured on Ruffled! | Genie & Dan - A Little Prince Inspired Wedding

Check out the feature HERE!! This was such a fun wedding to design and collaborate on with the bride, Genie from  Petit Plume!

From the whimsical ceremony centered with large white balloons dripping with trims and sweet details. To the reception room sprinkled with sweet florals by Bunch Studios, a custom backdrop we created for the dessert table using the couples illustrations, custom designed table numbers and place cards, to the string of birds fluttering over the dance floor.... this wedding embodied the true spirit of the Little Prince. Our goal was to capture the essence and magic of the story while weaving the bride and grooms personal story through it.  I love working with brides and grooms that love incorporating their personal talents and passions into their own wedding!

Happy Birthday to Lovely Jubilee!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LOVELY JUBILEE!

One year ago (yesterday 3/12) I launched Lovely Jubilee. Can you believe it's already been a year?!?! It's been a whirlwind of a year and I learned so much about myself and this business. And I relish in the fact that the ride has only just begun :) I've met some amazing people this past year... people who have become like family to me and have played major roles in shaping Lovely Jubilee into the company it is today.  I just want to say thank you to everyone that has had a hand in shedding light on this dream of mine!

After reflecting a bit, I've realized that this little dream I had a little over a year ago, is now a full blown reality! Don't get me wrong... I haven't "made it" yet - but in my eyes... I am more than satisfied with where we are today. Who knows when to say a company has "made it". I guess maybe if I ever make it into Martha Stewart, then maybe I'll give in and say it - hey, I've got big dreams :) But right now I just SO thankful and humbled by the fact that I have made it a year and have grown immensely as a company and as a person. Lovely Jubilee is definitely not the same company it was last year. It has become more focused and has a clearer vision on where it's going to be.... keep on a look out for a bit of some refreshing and refocusing on here and the site ;)

Its a bit ironic that I've ended my 1st year and and began my 2nd year in business with some ladies that have become amazing friends  (that I literally met a little over a year ago!).  It's funny how things turn full circle.

Last Wednesday on February 29, 2012 I celebrated Leap Year with Lucia & Henny from Utterly Engaged by throwing and amazing party filled with a Design Challenge, a jumping photobooth, a wall that dared you to 'leap'.... and just overall a fun and energy filled night! I promise... pictures to follow :) but here's one that just makes me smile everytime!
I love these girls!! How can you not smile?? haha. Keep an eye out for the next issue of Utterly Engaged for a full recap on this event AND for the reveal of the winner of this years Design Challenge!!

And now, on the 1st day of my 2nd year I'm prepping for Propel!

Propel is a workshop hosted and curated by Caroline Tran & produced by Ngoc Nguyen Lay of Skybox Event Productions - I love working with these ladies! Taking place this Thursday at the beautiful Langham Huntington Pasadena. This workshop sold out in the first few weeks of registration! And yours truly has been brought on as the event designer and stylist for all the shenanigans that will be taking place that day... I don't want to reveal too much - but lets just say I might need to put on some roller skates as there's going to be a lot of clicking all over the place!

So.... a long post short -I want to share my goals for my 2nd year in business:
1. Get better at follow up. I get so excited and passionate about what I do sometimes, that following up sometimes slips through the cracks.
2. Attain better balance. As any business owner knows... it's not always easy to just turn work off- especially when you love what you do. But I also love my family and friends that much more and would love to spend more time with them.
3. Take over the world! Hahaha jk... I just want to take 2012 by the horns and make a bigger impression on it than I did in 2011 :)

Keep an eye out for some over due blogs that will review some work that have recently received some attention, and for upcoming projects that I want to tell you ALL about! In the mean time.. follow me on twitter (@lovelyjubilee) to get some sneak peeks!

Have an amazing day! And thank YOU for all of your support :)
